On March 22, everyone celebrates the World Water Day or the World Water Resources Day.

The idea of appointing this holiday was announced for the first time at the UNO Conference dedicated to the environmental protection and Development (UNCED).

This event started in 1992, in Rio de Janeiro - hot and sunny city of the world famous festivals - Carnival. The UNO General Assembly made a formal decision and adopted the World Water Day in 1993, reminding all people about the meaning and importance of water for life on the Earth. It was decided to celebrate this holiday on March 22.

Since 1993, the World Water Day has been officially celebrated all over the world. Organization of the environmental protection asks every government to pay more attention for protection planet's water resources and performing concrete actions at national level.

Each year, the UNO appoints a specific group from their own organization, which monitors a compliance with the rules of the World Water Day.

New problems connected with water resources pollution appear every year. But the main purpose of the holiday remains unchanged. Among them are: solving problems of drinking water supply resulting from planet pollution; distribution of information about the importance and necessity of water resources and drinking water protection; the involvement of more countries into the holiday celebration.
